Home Remedies for Underarm Odor

Try these at home tips to reduce or eliminate armpit odors

Sweat and bacteria usually found on the skin create body odor.  Bacteria living on the skin break proteins when we sweat. Sweating is the body’s natural way to flush toxins. There is a release of some acid compounds, leading to a pungent smell.

Your body odor can change due to hormones, the food you eat, infection, medications, or underlying conditions like diabetes and Cystic Fibrosis. Body odor can have causes that aren’t due to underlying disease. Examples include poor hygiene, hot and humid weather, recent exercise, or eating certain foods such as onions and garlic.

Antiperspirants reduce sweat, while deodorants reduce the stink. Contrary to popular belief, the most effective time of day to apply deodorant is at night before going to bed,  when your body naturally sweats less. Your body temperature is lower, and your underarms are dryer at this time. The deodorant will have improved conditions for the active ingredients to enter the duct. Deodorant should always be applied to clean, dry skin. We need to take care of the skin under our arms as the skin on our face. Moisturizing with coconut oil soothes dry skin and reduces water loss in dehydrated skin. It has natural antibacterial properties and is highly soothing to the skin in delicate places.
